Chapter 8 - WHAT ELIAS KNEW
The missing notebook page was eventually found.
Not physically.
Digitally.
Elias used a document scanner app to photograph handwritten notes for backup.
Mara had forgotten.
The cloud account remained active.
The missing page said:
Victor has old draft.
Grant thinks contingency still valid.
If they know I changed it before signing, they will pressure Mara.
Need independent execution.
Do not tell family until filed.
Then:
If Grant threatens her, remove him from company authority.
Mara had to stop reading.
Elias knew.
Not that Grant would attack her.
Not that he would threaten her death in hospice.
But he knew pressure would come.
That was why he kept the final trust secret until execution.
Then another scanned page.
Elias wrote:
Mara must never inherit the patent personally. It would make her the target and corrupt the purpose.
Mara cried.
That was Elias.
Even dying, he understood ownership could become danger.
So he did not leave her the asset.
He left her a duty.
One she could eventually resign from.
One she could not sell for personal gain.
One designed to survive her.
Grant’s entire assumption was wrong.
Mara’s death did not make him richer.
