Chapter 11 - THE PLAN FOR EMMA
Sarah forced herself not to panic.
Ashley explained that Olivia had discussed using Emma to create “a parenting incident.”
Not harming her.
Not physically injuring her.
Creating a scene.
Emma would become upset.
Sarah would react.
Someone would record Sarah screaming, grabbing, threatening, or losing control.
The balcony punishment may have been bait.
Sarah’s early return disrupted the timing.
“Who was supposed to record me?” Sarah asked.
Ashley looked away.
“Daniel.”
Daniel went pale.
He admitted Olivia told him Sarah might “explode” when she arrived from Chicago the next morning.
He was supposed to record any argument.
He claimed he did not know Emma would be involved.
Sarah believed that partly.
Not fully.
“Why was Emma outside tonight if I was supposed to come tomorrow?”
Ashley answered.
“Because Mom got a message that your flight changed.”
Sarah froze.
Only a few people knew.
Her executive assistant.
Airline systems.
The driver she canceled.
Melissa.
Rebecca.
Someone close to Sarah had been feeding Olivia information.
The family folder contained initials: M.G.
Melissa Grant.
Sarah’s accountant.
Sarah felt physically sick.
Melissa had warned her about the family charges.
Had she been pretending?
Rebecca urged caution.
Initials were not proof.
Sarah confronted Melissa indirectly by changing one fake travel plan and sharing it only with her.
Within hours, Olivia’s attorney referenced the false destination in a filing.
Proof.
Melissa was leaking.
When confronted, she cried.
Olivia had paid her.
Not huge amounts.
Enough to cover her husband’s gambling debts.
Vincent had approached her six months earlier.
Melissa gave them travel schedules, family expense data, and internal financial concerns.
Then she began to regret it.
That was why she warned Sarah about the charges.
She had been trying to help without exposing herself.
Sarah fired her.
Then offered cooperation credit if she testified truthfully.
Melissa agreed.
Her testimony connected Vincent directly to unauthorized use of Sarah’s information.
More importantly, she had recorded one meeting.
Vincent said:
“Olivia doesn’t need custody. She needs fear of losing custody.”
That was the clearest evidence yet of intent to manipulate the legal process.
Prosecutors became interested.
Not in family drama.
In fraud.
Identity misuse.
Potential conspiracy.
Olivia sensed the shift and changed strategy.
She offered Sarah a settlement.
All lawsuits withdrawn.
No custody claims.
No trust petition.
No shareholder demand.
In exchange, Sarah would sign mutual releases and agree not to cooperate with criminal investigators over financial documents.
Rebecca laughed.
“That tells us she’s scared.”
Sarah refused.
Olivia retaliated.
She submitted a sealed affidavit claiming Daniel had physically intimidated her and threatened to fabricate evidence.
Daniel denied it.
But this time Olivia included an audio recording.
Daniel’s voice:
“If you go after Sarah again, I’ll destroy you.”
Real.
He had said it.
Context mattered little.
His credibility suffered.
Then Ashley disappeared.
Her phone went off.
Her apartment was empty.
Olivia claimed she did not know where she was.
Marcus received one text from Ashley:
I MADE A MISTAKE. MOM KNOWS WHAT I GAVE SARAH.
Then silence.
Sarah feared Olivia had forced Ashley into hiding.
Daniel thought otherwise.
“Mom doesn’t hide people.”
“What does she do?”
Daniel looked at Sarah.
“She makes them come back voluntarily.”
Twenty-four hours later, Ashley appeared at Olivia’s apartment.
Then publicly recanted everything.

And she accused Sarah of offering her two million dollars to testify.
