Chapter 6 - THOMAS DIDN'T CANCEL THE WEDDING

Emily appeared at Thomas’s house two days later.

No appointment.

No warning.

He opened the door himself.

She walked in before being invited.

“You embarrassed me.”

Thomas closed the door.

“You embarrassed yourself.”

“My dress was held in front of everyone.”

“You tried to buy it with my card.”

“You gave me that card.”

“For emergencies and family expenses.”

“My wedding is a family expense.”

Thomas almost smiled.

“For which family?”

Emily flinched.

“That’s childish.”

“No.”

He walked toward the kitchen.

“What would have been childish is calling the printer.”

She followed.

“You knew what I meant.”

“I knew what you printed.”

“Charles is my stepfather.”

“I never objected to that.”

“You hate him.”

“I distrust some of his business practices. That is not the same thing.”

Emily’s anger cracked.

“His accounts are frozen because of you.”

“No.”

“You’re chairman.”

“That does not make your stepfather’s money mine.”

Thomas looked directly at her.

“His bank accounts are under review because bank professionals found issues that existed before I saw your invitation.”

Emily went still.

“What issues?”

“I cannot discuss client information.”

“He’s family.”

Thomas’s expression turned sad.

“So was I.”

That landed.

Emily looked away.

Then said quietly:

“Are you canceling the wedding?”

“No.”

She looked back.

“I’m canceling my financing of it.”

Her face hardened.

“Same thing.”

“No, Emily.”

May you like

Thomas’s voice softened.

“It only feels like the same thing because you built the wedding around an assumption that I would keep saying yes.”
