THE MAN WHO SIGNED THE GUARDIANSHIP PAPERS

Antonio surrendered voluntarily.

He arrived at the Rossi estate without lawyers.

Dark coat.

Rain on his shoulders.

Same eyes as Vittorio.

Same jaw as Leon.

The resemblance was unmistakable once Leon knew to look.

They met in the library.

No embrace.

No brotherhood ceremony.

Leon placed the guardianship documents on the table.

“You signed these.”

“Yes.”

“For twenty-five years.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Antonio looked toward the fireplace.

“Because your mother told me Amelia was dangerous.”

“She was a child.”

“She was twenty when I first signed.”

“She was Grace’s mother.”

“I did not know.”

Leon laughed bitterly.

“You sign away someone’s life without knowing who she is?”

Antonio absorbed the accusation.

“Yes.”

At nineteen, Isabella finally acknowledged Antonio privately.

Not as son.

As asset.

She told him Elena suffered delusions.

She said Elena’s daughter inherited the same instability.

Amelia was dangerous.

Antonio believed her.

He signed annual guardianship renewals as trustee representative.

Later, he started doubting.

He visited Amelia once.

She called him by name before introduction.

Then said:

“Your mother did not abandon you.”

Antonio began investigating.

That was when he discovered Grace.

He learned Isabella planned to seize Grace’s baby.

He agreed initially to participate only because Isabella said Grace intended to abandon the child and Leon was medically infertile.

Both lies.

Antonio was promised legal fatherhood.

Then he saw Grace imprisoned.

He objected.

“That was not the agreement,” he said.

Grace had heard correctly.

He tried to help.

He sewed the note into her nightdress.

Why not simply open the door?

Isabella controlled security.

Arthur was afraid.

Antonio believed one wrong move would cause Grace to disappear like Elena.

Leon looked at him.

“You still left her there.”

“Yes.”

No excuse.

Antonio turned over everything.

Bank records.

Messages.

Trust drafts.

Security codes.

The plan reached beyond Isabella.

Carlo Rossi.

Vittorio’s younger brother.

Still alive.

Eighty.

Living in Switzerland.

Carlo designed the hidden-room system decades earlier.

He helped Isabella control Elena.

Then helped fake Amelia’s death.

Why?

Because Carlo wanted the family trust.

If Vittorio’s heirs became legally compromised, Carlo’s branch could inherit.

Isabella believed she controlled Carlo.

Carlo believed he controlled her.

Antonio existed between them.

Then investigators visited Sister Maria.

Amelia.

Grace’s mother.

She recognized Grace immediately.

“My little girl.”

Grace did not collapse into her arms.

Twenty-five years mattered.

She asked one question first.

“Why did you let me believe you were dead?”

Amelia began crying.

“I didn’t choose that.”

The guardianship institution had cut contact.

Letters disappeared.

Visits denied.

Amelia was declared delusional whenever she said she had a daughter.

The same method Isabella planned for Grace.

Erase a woman by declaring her unreliable.

Then Amelia revealed something more.

Grace was not her only child.

She gave birth to twins.

Grace had a brother.

He was taken at birth.

Name:

Matteo.

Grace stared.

Leon did too.

Because Matteo Rossi was the name on Isabella’s newest trust draft.

The baby Grace carried was not the only child she planned to transfer.

She had already found Grace’s twin brother.

And he was inside the Rossi household.
