THE CHILD WHO BELONGED TO THE DEAD BROTHER

Gavin sat down.
Taylor remained beside him.
She did not understand the genealogy.
She understood adults were frightened.
That was enough.
Nora explained.
Four years earlier, before she worked for the Roberson family, she met a man named David Ross.
He was quiet.
Private.
Frequently travelling.
They dated for six months.
Nora became pregnant.
Then David disappeared.
No breakup.
No explanation.
Only money arriving anonymously for Taylor’s first year.
Nora assumed he had abandoned them.
Two years later, Evelyn hired her through a domestic staffing agency.
Coincidence?
No.
Daniel arranged it.
He wanted Taylor near the Roberson family without revealing himself.
Nora stared at Evelyn.
“You knew?”
Evelyn shook her head.
“Not until yesterday.”
Daniel had kept even her outside that truth.
Independent DNA testing was ordered.
No family lab.
Taylor was Daniel’s biological daughter.
Which made her Gavin’s niece.
And a direct Roberson heir.
The family trust changed immediately.
Daniel, legally dead, had dormant shares.
His living child could challenge.
Priscilla knew.
That was why she had spent months moving money.
Not for Daniel alone.
To create a parallel trust before Taylor’s identity became public.
If Daniel returned, his daughter gave him stronger succession rights.
If Daniel stayed dead, Priscilla could use Taylor’s branch through guardianship.
Gavin looked at her.
“You were planning to control a three-year-old.”
Priscilla answered:
“I was planning stability.”
The wealthy always had a clean word ready.
Nora’s anger broke through.
“You didn’t even know her.”
“I knew enough.”
“No. You knew what her name was worth.”
Good.
Then the hard drive was opened.
Daniel had recorded dozens of messages.
One for Gavin.
“Brother, if you’re hearing this, Priscilla chose money over discretion.”
Gavin stared.
Daniel sounded alive.
Close.
The recording continued.
“She thinks I’m helping her take your company. I’m not.”
Priscilla’s face changed.
“She’s bait.”
Gavin looked at her.
Daniel had used Priscilla.
He allowed her to move money into accounts he could track.
He wanted proof she was willing to betray Gavin.
Why?
Because someone inside Roberson Capital had been preparing to remove Gavin as CEO.
Daniel suspected Priscilla was connected.
He needed completed financial misconduct.
Again.
Someone turning another person’s betrayal into an experiment.
Gavin hated the method even as it helped him.
The next recording:
“Do not trust Mom’s version of the plane crash.”
Evelyn closed her eyes.
Daniel said:
“She did not help me disappear.”
Gavin looked at her.
“She helped someone keep me gone.”
Evelyn whispered:
“No.”
Daniel’s voice continued.
“The man who arranged my false identity was our uncle, Charles Roberson.”
Gavin’s father’s younger brother.
Family counsel.
Trust protector.
Dead two years.
Or supposedly.
Another death.
Another closed file.
Daniel explained Charles discovered the offshore accounts first.
He used them to control Daniel.
He threatened prison if Daniel returned.
Evelyn believed she was protecting him by staying silent.
Charles used that fear.
Priscilla had later become Charles’s client.
She did not know Daniel’s full history.
She only knew there was a hidden heir.
Then Daniel said one final sentence:
“Taylor is not my only child.”
Nora looked at the screen.
Gavin froze.
The recording named another child.
A son.
Age seven.
Raised inside the Roberson family under another name.
Evelyn whispered:
“Who?”
The file opened.
Name:
Oliver Roberson.
Legal parents:
Gavin Roberson and his late wife, Sophia.
Gavin’s son.
