Chapter 5 - WHY ELEANOR WANTED MAYA TO FAIL
Eleanor had never liked Maya.
David knew that.
He did not understand how much until Mara began reviewing family messages.
Eleanor believed Maya had trapped David.
Not with the pregnancy.
They had planned Liam.
With dependence.
Maya had left her marketing job late in pregnancy because of complications.
David earned substantially more.
Eleanor saw that as proof Maya wanted to live off him.
Then came the emergency delivery.
Eleanor told Mark in a text:
Now he’ll spend months playing nurse to her.
Mark replied:
Unless she realizes she can handle it.
Eleanor:
Exactly.
Another:
If we make it too comfortable, she’ll never stand on her own.
David read the messages in silence.
His mother had not left impulsively.
She had constructed a lesson.
Remove support.
Remove food.
Cancel the nurse.
Let Maya struggle.
Then show David that his wife was weak.
Miami was not the original plan.
That came after Mark saw the money.
He suggested they “use some of it” because David had sent too much.
Eleanor agreed.
