Chapter 4 - THE NURSE WHO REMEMBERED THE CAR
Denise Parker called Aaron Bell three days later.
She remembered something.
The afternoon Valentina was discharged, Daniel did not arrive alone.
A woman came with him.
Blonde.
Mid-fifties.
Gray suit.
Leather document case.
She introduced herself as a “care coordinator.”
Denise assumed she worked for a private agency.
No agency name appeared in the record.
Valentina was weak.
Confused.
She kept asking:
“Are we going home?”
Daniel answered:
“Of course.”
Denise helped Valentina into a black SUV.
Then the blonde woman handed Daniel an envelope.
Denise noticed because Valentina dropped one glove and she bent to retrieve it.
The envelope had a title company logo.
That connected the hospital discharge to the property closing.
Investigators identified the blonde woman.
Patricia Shaw.
Licensed notary.
The same notary on the deed.
When questioned, Patricia initially insisted Valentina signed in person.
Then investigators showed her the hospital timeline.
Patricia’s story changed.
She said Daniel brought pre-signed documents.
She notarized after speaking with Valentina by phone.
Illegal.
Then Aaron asked:
“Did you speak to Valentina?”
Patricia’s face changed.
“No.”
“Who did you speak to?”
Silence.
Finally:
“Daniel said his mother was too weak. He said everything had already been approved.”
Patricia had trusted him.
And been paid $15,000 for “expedited estate services.”
