Chapter 6 - WHERE DANIEL LEFT HER

The most painful evidence came from traffic cameras.
The black SUV left St. Gabriel Medical Center at 4:07 p.m.
Daniel drove.
Valentina sat in the rear.
The vehicle did not go toward Ashbury Lane.
It went west.
Then south.
Then disappeared from camera coverage for eighteen minutes.
At 5:02 p.m., the SUV appeared near the Riverside underpass.
At 5:11, Daniel’s phone connected to a cell tower nearby.
At 5:19, the SUV left alone.
No Valentina visible in the rear seat.
Investigators found a witness.
A man who slept under the bridge named Arthur Cole.
He remembered a “nice black car.”
A well-dressed man helped an old woman out.
Set a shopping cart beside her.
Gave her a blanket.
Then left.
Arthur asked:
“Is she okay?”
The man said:
“She has dementia. Family is coming.”
No one came.
Valentina spent eight nights beneath the bridge.
Arthur gave her water.
A church van gave her food.
She kept the pearls.
Why?
May you like
Because she still understood one thing clearly.
They were hers.
