Chapter 7 - CHARLES FINALLY READS THE TRUST
Charles spent most of his life assuming wealth protected his family.
It did the opposite.
It let them delay consequences.
After Tyler’s arrest, Charles finally read the trust documents Evelyn had begged him to review.
The Ashcroft Legacy Trust did not automatically pass to Tyler if Evelyn died.
That was Tyler’s first misunderstanding.
If Evelyn died while serving as successor trustee, administration passed to an independent fiduciary company.
Tyler remained a beneficiary.
Not controller.
His entire theory was wrong.
Where had he gotten it?
From attorney Preston Vale.
Not Charles’s estate counsel.
Tyler’s personal lawyer.
Preston had told him:
If Evelyn is removed from the structure, the family can petition to restore direct-line control.
Possible.
But not automatic.
And certainly not:
the trust becomes yours when she dies.
Preston later insisted he meant lawful removal through court review.
Tyler heard what he wanted.
Still, investigators found troubling emails.
Tyler:
What if she’s not around?
Preston:
Then the succession problem becomes simpler, but do not say things like that in writing.
Not proof Preston knew about violence.
Proof he understood Tyler’s obsession.
Professional discipline followed.
Criminal charges did not.
