The forensic audit took three weeks.
Apex Transition Partners received $486,000.
Where did the money go?
Some to consultants.
Some to legal preparation.
Some to market analysis.
And $120,000 to a company controlled by Adrian.
He called it a referral fee.
Undisclosed.
That was the problem.
Another $80,000 went to a recovery-marketing firm where Celeste had been promised a future equity stake.
She did not own it yet.
But Adrian had dangled ownership.
He was building loyalty with money that belonged to the nonprofit.
Celeste finally understood.
He had not chosen her over Mara.
He had chosen whichever sister made the transaction easier.
The affair may have been real.
His strategy was more real.
Celeste cried when she gave her statement.
Mara did not comfort her.
Not yet.
Being manipulated did not erase what Celeste did.
She threw coffee.
Humiliated Mara.
Mocked her housing situation.
