Chapter 6 - LILY HAD BEEN TALKING TO CALEB FOR DAYS

The whispers did not begin on the seventh night.
Caleb simply noticed them then.
Lily had tried to contact him before.
The hidden room shared an old heating vent with the apartment kitchen.
She could hear footsteps.
Sometimes voices.
She knew Caleb’s name because Victor and Daniel discussed him in the corridor.
She heard:
“New tenant starts Monday.”
Then:
“Caleb Hart. Cyber guy.”
Lily tried tapping the pipe.
Caleb thought it was plumbing.
She whispered through the vent.
He never heard clearly.
Until Daniel forgot to close an internal access panel.
That night, her voice carried.
“Please… I can’t stay here anymore.”
Caleb asked:
“Why didn’t he gag you?”
Lily looked at him.
“He didn’t need to.”
“What do you mean?”
“The walls were supposed to be soundproof.”
Daniel believed nobody could hear.
His mistake.
Then Lily revealed something worse.
Victor was not running the blackmail network alone.
He sold information to clients.
Divorce lawyers.
Corporate rivals.
Private investigators.
One political consultant.
One hedge-fund executive.
Not all clients knew how the information was obtained.
Some did.

The network was broader than one building.
But the building was the archive.
