Chapter 5 - THE VIDEO SHOWED WHAT MEMORY MISSED
Arthur’s phone video became the centerpiece.
Not because it captured the brick clearly.
It did.
But because it captured two minutes before.
Robert cornering Elena near the garden wall.
His voice low.
“You sign tonight.”
Elena:
“Sign what?”
Robert:
“The trust approval.”
Elena:
“At my engagement party?”
Robert:
“You’re embarrassing me.”
Then Vivian entered.
“She’s been embarrassing us for years.”
Vanessa laughed in the background.
Daniel was across the lawn speaking to guests.
Elena said:
“I’m not signing anything without counsel.”
Robert picked up the brick.
Arthur’s camera shifted.
Then the throw.
Police had more than assault now.
They had evidence that the violence followed a demand related to trust property.
Prosecutors began examining attempted coercion and financial exploitation theories.
Robert hired excellent counsel.
His defense:
He lost control during a family argument.
No premeditated assault.
No planned extortion.
No intention to hit Elena’s face.
The brick, he claimed, was meant to strike the wall beside her.
Arthur’s video made that difficult.
Robert’s arm angle pointed directly toward Elena.
Still, intent had to be proven carefully.
Elena watched the footage once.
