Carver Meridian’s board removed Nicholas before criminal charges were resolved.
Not because newspapers demanded it.
Because the internal evidence was overwhelming.
Undisclosed related-party relationships.
False vendor controls.
Retaliation against audit staff.
Improper use of security personnel.
Failure to disclose Nathaniel’s financial interest.
Nicholas appeared before the special committee.
Emma watched remotely with counsel.
He did not apologize.
He defended the choices.
Nathaniel was drowning in debt after a failed private fund.
If exposed, he would have taken down several Carver family entities.
Nicholas believed temporary transfers could stabilize him.
Then temporary became years.
The board chair asked:
“Why not disclose the conflict?”
Nicholas answered:
“Because you would have stopped me.”
Same sentence in different clothes.
Emma had heard versions of it before.
Why didn’t you ask?
Because you would have said no.
That is where theft often begins.
Not with poverty.
With refusal to accept another person’s right to refuse.
Nicholas faced criminal charges for fraud, obstruction, conspiracy, and retaliation-related conduct.
The vehicle incident produced separate charges against Sloan and Rachel, with Nicholas charged under theories supported by communications and intent evidence—not attempted murder.
Some counts stuck.
