Mara Chen, a forensic accountant retained by Frank’s attorney, found the transfer.
$1.2 million.
From a Bennett Family Investment Trust account.
To a real-estate escrow.
Beneficiary:
Madison Bennett.
The condo.
Madison claimed it was a gift.
Evelyn agreed.
Frank did not remember approving it.
That mattered.
But memory alone was not proof.
The transfer authorization carried Frank’s digital signature.
Mara checked the metadata.
It was executed from Evelyn’s home-office computer.
At 11:43 p.m.
Frank’s medical oxygen monitor showed he had been asleep upstairs for over two hours.
Still not enough by itself.
Digital credentials can be shared.
Then the bank produced a recorded verification call.
A woman answered.
Said Frank was “too short of breath to speak.”
Confirmed the transfer on his behalf.
Evelyn’s voice.
The banker asked whether Frank consented.
Evelyn said:
“He’s nodding.”
There was no male voice audible.
Nora listened to the recording once.
Then looked at Madison.
Her sister had agreed to meet at Samuel Archer’s office.
“Did you know?”
Madison cried.
“Mom said Dad wanted me secure.”
“That’s not what I asked.”
Madison looked away.
Nora waited.
Finally:
“I knew he wasn’t the one talking to the bank.”
Silence.
“Did you know he might not have approved it?”
Madison’s face crumpled.
