Chapter 17 - GRACIE FOUND THE OLD SUITCASE

At twelve, Gracie found Sawyer’s old black suitcase in the basement.
The one he dropped that night.
He had never used it again.
She recognized it.
“That’s the suitcase.”
Sawyer froze.
“Yes.”
“Why did you keep it?”
“I don’t know.”
Gracie opened it.
Empty.
Dusty.
She laughed.
“You’re weird.”
Probably.
Sawyer had kept it as an artifact.
The moment he came home.
The moment everything changed.
Gracie looked at him.
“You know I don’t remember everything?”
“What?”
“That night.”
He stared.
“I remember Bunny. I remember you yelling. I remember Mom blocking the door.”
She shrugged.
“But not all of it.”
Sawyer had replayed every second for years.
Gracie had not.
That was good.
He donated the suitcase.
No ceremony.
