Chapter 10 - ETHAN'S BLIND SPOT
Ethan had opposed any Hayes-family financing from the start.
He called it messy.
He called it humiliating.
He also had another motive.
Pride.
He did not want his wife’s family rescuing his father’s company.
Emily finally said:
“You act like taking money from my family makes you less of a man.”
“It’s not that.”
“It is partly that.”
He looked away.
She continued:
“You wanted Dad to sell assets instead.”
“Yes.”
“Which assets?”
“The Dayton warehouse.”
“That warehouse supports forty jobs.”
Ethan knew.
His preferred solution had costs too.
He had treated “independence” as automatically cleaner.
It was not.
The company’s crisis required somebody to absorb risk.
Bank.
Investor.
Family.
Employees.
There was no painless answer.
