The annulment hearing became a corporate war.
Ella’s lawyer insisted on separating two questions.
Was the marriage valid?
And who controlled the trust?
They were not identical.
Ella testified.
She told the truth.
Ethan concealed his identity.
He concealed his inheritance.
He allowed her to believe she needed the marriage to save her family.
He used a disguise.
He manipulated circumstances.
Then Marcus’s attorney asked:
“Were you physically forced to marry?”
“No.”
“Threatened?”
“No.”
“Were the legal documents signed under Ethan’s real name?”
“Yes.”
“Did you understand you were entering a marriage?”
“Yes.”
“But not to whom.”
Ella looked at Ethan.
“Not fully.”
The court did not resolve everything immediately.
Instead, it issued temporary governance orders.
Ella retained independent spouse-protector rights pending validity litigation.
Ethan could not exercise unilateral trust control.
Marcus could not force the hospital sale.
Independent board members took temporary authority.
For the first time, no Ashbourne man controlled the outcome alone.
Ella liked that.
Then she moved out.
Ethan asked:
“Are we done?”
She answered:
“I don’t know.”
