Celia had reimbursed herself for:
home-care coordination,
travel,
meal delivery management,
appointment scheduling,
and “executive family support.”
Grant had billed the foundation through a property company he partly owned for:
maintenance,
storage,
and fleet parking.
Some charges were legitimate.
Some excessive.
Some simply undocumented.
Total disputed exposure:
around $118,000 over eighteen months.
Not millions.
Not enough to destroy the foundation.
Enough to matter.
Grant’s defense was strong:
“The foundation used the space.”
True.
Celia said:
“I spent hundreds of hours managing Mom’s care.”
Also true.
Evelyn said:
“Then invoice correctly.”
Celia snapped:
“You think everything is paperwork.”
“No.”
Evelyn looked at her.

“I think money should be.”
The argument became personal after that.
