Chapter 5 - THE SIX MISSING SECONDS
Claire did grab Margaret.
She admitted it before the video played in court. Margaret had reached beneath Claire's blouse for Hannah's letter. Claire caught her wrist and pushed it away. The clip began after Margaret's first attempt and ended before Logan entered.
“You used force,” Logan's lawyer said.
“Yes,” Claire answered. “To stop her from taking something from inside my clothing.”
“And six months ago, you lied to police about your husband.”
“Yes.”
Claire refused the comfort of pretending every action had been perfect. Her honesty made the inconsistencies easier to evaluate, not disappear.
The original kitchen system stored motion thumbnails separately from video. One thumbnail from the missing seconds showed Margaret's hand inside Claire's torn neckline. Metadata confirmed it had been generated before Claire grabbed her wrist.
Forensic analysts also examined the shed lock. The automatic-lock claim was false. The hasp required someone outside to close it and enter a code. Server logs placed Logan's phone beside the keypad at 10:58 p.m.
Logan said he locked the door because Claire had become violent and was threatening self-harm. He claimed he intended to check on her after she calmed down.
“Why did you not call emergency services?” Singh asked.
“Because my wife begged me not to humiliate her.”
He had an explanation for every isolated fact.
Claire's medical records became the next battle. Her prescribing doctor said she reported occasional misuse of anxiety medication. Raw appointment audio showed a different conversation: Claire said pills were sometimes missing and Logan controlled the bottle. The doctor's summary reduced that to “difficulty maintaining prescribed schedule.”
The doctor denied conspiring with Logan. He acknowledged relying too heavily on Logan's version because Logan attended appointments and described himself as a caregiver.
Then toxicologists compared Claire's blood with the medication bottle recovered from the estate. The blood contained the correct drug plus a fast-acting sleep aid not prescribed to her.
The same sleep aid appeared in Hannah's sealed medical sample from nine years earlier, preserved after an emergency-room visit.
It was an over-the-counter medication available in thousands of stores. The match showed a pattern, not a source.

One hour before Claire was locked in the shed, Margaret had bought the sleep aid at a pharmacy near the estate.
