Chapter 7 - THE EMAILS FROM CLAIRE

The emails telling Ethan not to search were not written by Claire.

Forensic review years later showed something the original investigation had missed.

The first login occurred through public Wi-Fi near the Utah hospital.

That part was real.

Claire had used a supervised computer briefly.

She started drafting an email.

I am alive.

She never finished it.

Margaret visited two days later.

Hospital logs confirmed the visit.

Claire was frightened and confused.

Margaret told her:

“Ethan thinks you abandoned Emily.”

Claire cried.

“That’s not true.”

“He is angry.”

“I need to call him.”

“You are not ready.”

Margaret later accessed Claire’s open email session.

The hospital computer automatically logged out eventually.

But not before Margaret sent the first message.

Later messages came from a device associated with Margaret’s travel.

The original investigation had not linked that device because the metadata available then was limited.

Newer forensic review, preserved account logs, and travel records changed the picture.

Margaret had created the abandonment narrative herself.
