Chapter 10 - THE INSURANCE LETTER

Then Lauren found something worse than changed access codes.

A homeowner’s insurance notice addressed to Ethan.

He had contacted the insurer asking to be listed as:

primary resident and household policy contact.

The insurer had not changed ownership.

It could not.

But correspondence now used Ethan’s name first.

Eleanor had also submitted a forwarding instruction for several household bills.

Again:

administration,

not title.

Lauren initially called it fraud.

Her lawyer stopped her.

“Slow down.”

“He was changing records.”

“Some records he may have authority to update as a resident or named insured. We need to separate improper changes from ordinary account administration.”

Lauren hated that sentence.

Because she wanted one clean betrayal.

Instead there were layers.

Some changes were allowed.

Some misleading.

None transferred the deed.

But collectively they helped Ethan tell himself he belonged there more than Lauren did.
