Chapter 12 - VIVIAN'S SECRET

Vivian eventually admitted she had known Elena’s drinks were being altered.
Not every time.
Not how much.
Not exactly with what.
Elliot had told her:
“It only relaxes her.”
Vivian asked:
“Is it safe?”
He said yes.
She believed him.
Or chose to.
Her role had been smaller than Elliot’s.
But real.
She had once moved Elena’s glass after Elliot quietly pointed to the place setting.
That was why Vivian froze when Elliot collapsed.
She knew there was something in the room that should not have been.
She did not know he would be the one affected.
Vivian insisted she never wanted Elena seriously harmed.
The investigation did not require proving she did.
Helping create a condition where Elena’s judgment could be portrayed as impaired was enough to expose a deliberate scheme of coercion.
Vivian’s cooperation did not happen immediately.
For weeks she minimized.
She said:
Elliot only wanted Elena calm,
Elena had become impossible,
the transfer was financially sensible,
everyone was under pressure.
Then investigators showed her messages where Elliot wrote:
Need her compliant enough to sign before Northshore walks.
Vivian had replied:
Then stop arguing with her and get it done.
The phrase:
get it done
was not an instruction to poison anyone.
But it destroyed Vivian’s claim that she believed the entire situation was ordinary marital negotiation.

She knew pressure was the strategy.
She chose not to ask where the pressure ended.
