Chapter 6 - ONE MORE FALL
The attempted-murder theory did not come from the shove alone.
A shove down a wide hospital staircase could kill.
But prosecutors still needed intent beyond rage.
Then detectives found a voice memo Jessica recorded accidentally during an argument with Harrison.
She apparently hit record while fumbling with her phone.
Harrison:
I told you Elena’s doctors say another major fall could set her back badly.
Jessica:
Then maybe stop bringing her everywhere like she’s made of glass.
Harrison:
What is wrong with you?
Jessica:
You’re the one who said one bad setback and she’d be back in rehab for months.
Harrison:
That was not an invitation.
Jessica:
I didn’t say it was.
Date:
nine days before the shove.
Elena listened once.
Never again.
Harrison had shared private details of her spinal injury with his mistress.
Maybe as venting.
Maybe because Jessica asked.
Either way, she knew another fall could be dangerous.
Then another message surfaced.
Jessica:
If she disappeared tomorrow, would you finally stop pretending?
Harrison:
Don’t ever say that again.
Jessica:
Answer me.
Harrison:
No.
Jessica:
Coward.
That helped prosecutors establish escalating fixation.
Still, Daniel warned Elena:
“Attempted murder requires proof beyond ‘she did something that could have killed you.’”
Elena nodded.
“What do they have?”
“Her act. Her knowledge. Her statements. Her conduct before and after.”
Security footage showed Jessica did not reach for the chair after the first drop.
She did not call for help.
She watched.
Then began descending only after Harrison caught Elena.
That mattered.
Then Jessica gave a partial confession.
“I wanted her gone.”
The detective asked:
“Gone from Harrison’s life?”
Jessica answered:
“Gone.”
