Chapter 6 - MARGARET'S RECORDS
Margaret handled paperwork.
That was the surprise.
She had spent thirty years as a medical-office administrator.
Organized.
Precise.
Quiet.
Rachel hated forms.
Frank hated email.
Margaret loved both.
She submitted many CYRI reimbursement packets to the trust “to help.”
She insisted she did not create invoices.
True.
She did not set rates.
True.
She did not receive money personally.
Also true.
Then forensic review found metadata.
Several progress reports were created on Margaret’s laptop.
One read:
HALEY DEMONSTRATED IMPROVED MATERNAL SEPARATION TOLERANCE.
Danny frowned.
“What does that mean?”
Lauren said:
“Ability to function independently from a parent.”
Grace asked:
“Who observed it?”
The report listed:
Rachel Carter.
Rachel said Margaret typed notes from her dictation.
Possible.
Then another report.
PARENTAL RESISTANCE CONTINUES TO LIMIT CLIENT PROGRESS.
Danny stared.
“My resistance?”
Margaret said:
“You cancel sessions.”
“I canceled two.”
“You question everything.”
“Apparently not enough.”
Then Grace found something worse.
Several parent-signature images were copied from a single PDF.
Same pixel pattern.
Same slight ink break.
Used across nine different consent forms.
Danny’s signature had been digitally reused.
Margaret’s defense became stronger when the investigators looked at workflow.
Rachel often sent voice notes.
Margaret transcribed them.
The language sounded “clinical” because Rachel used professional terminology.
Several suspicious phrases originated in Rachel’s recordings.
That protected Margaret from being labeled the author of every statement.
Then one voice note contained:
“Say maternal resistance continues to limit progress.”
Margaret answered in the recording:
“That sounds nasty.”
Rachel:
“It’s accurate.”
Margaret:
“Danny will be furious if she sees it.”
Rachel:
“She doesn’t get the internal version.”
That was the problem.
The trust received one version.
Danny received another.
The parent-facing report said:
“Continued family consistency recommended.”
The trust-facing report said:
“Maternal resistance continues to limit client progress.”
Same session.
Different framing.
Margaret had helped create both.
