Chapter 4 - THE CROPPED MESSAGE
Amber’s saved screenshot began with Hazel:
IF YOU CHANGE ONE MORE FAMILY PLAN WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE, I WILL HANDLE THE REHEARSAL DINNER MYSELF.
It looked aggressive.
The full thread showed Amber’s message immediately before it:
GARNET SAID YOU’D RATHER WE CANCEL THE FAMILY DINNER THAN HAVE IT AT BELLA VITA, SO I RELEASED THE RESERVATION.
Hazel had never said that.
She had told Garnet:
“Your uncle will complain Bella Vita is too formal.”
Garnet later summarized it to Amber as:
“Mom thinks Bella Vita is too formal.”
Amber heard:
Hazel opposed the venue.
She released the reservation.
Then told Hazel.
Hazel exploded.
Her message followed.
Amber cropped out the trigger when adding it to the incident log.
Elise asked:
“Why?”
Amber answered:
“Because the assignment was about Hazel’s reaction.”
“The trigger is part of the reaction.”
Amber looked away.
Then Incident 6.
Hazel “attempted to change seating.”
She had emailed Lila asking whether Patricia could sit farther from the speakers because of migraines.
She copied Garnet.
Not Amber.
Still poor communication.
Not takeover.
Incident 7.
Hazel “confronted bride’s mother.”
What happened?
Hazel asked Diane:
“Did you know the shower start time changed?”
Diane said no.
Hazel replied:
“I’m tired of finding out last.”
Diane later said:
“She sounded annoyed. I didn’t feel attacked.”
Incident 9.
Hazel “interfered with alcohol service.”
She had asked whether nonalcoholic wine could be placed at the family table for Garnet’s sober uncle.
She never asked to reduce the bar.
The log used true actions and loaded interpretations.
Then Elise reviewed Incident 11.
NO-CONTACT WEEKEND.
Amber had told Garnet:
“I need one weekend where your mother isn’t part of the conversation.”
Garnet agreed to tell Hazel.
He never did.
Hazel called Saturday.
Then Sunday.
Amber recorded:
Hazel refuses to respect no-contact boundary.
Hazel had violated a boundary she never knew existed.
Garnet looked sick.
Elise asked:
“Did you know Amber entered this as a violation?”
“Yes.”
“Did you correct it?”
“No.”
“Why?”
Garnet whispered:
“Because then it would look like my fault.”
Silence.
Amber slowly turned toward him.
The incident log had not been Amber’s project alone.
Garnet had let it blame Hazel because one clear villain was easier than admitting he had failed both women.
Then Lila checked system history.
Two entries had been edited after creation.
