Chapter 6 - THE VIDEO
Amber stared at the guest video.
Yes, she had seen Hazel moving chairs.
No, she had not known which chair was which.
From the doorway, both looked identical.
She assumed Hazel had:
noticed the glue,
removed the prank,
and moved a clean chair back into place.
Why would Amber assume Hazel would quietly clean up the trap?
Because that was exactly what Amber expected from her.
Absorb the joke.
Be annoyed.
Maybe make a comment later.
But do not create a scene.
Hazel heard that explanation and almost laughed.
“So you thought I would fix your prank for you.”
Amber said nothing.
The video also forced Hazel to confront herself.
She had not simply protected herself.
She had wanted Amber to feel the humiliation she designed.
When Hazel watched herself move the glued chair, she disliked what she saw.
She sent one message:
I switched the chair knowing it was glued. That was wrong. It does not change that you put glue on mine first.
Amber did not answer.
Then Garnet called.
“Mom, I need you to tell the family what happened.”
“I already have.”
“No. I mean send a statement.”
Hazel frowned.
“Why?”
“People think Amber attacked you for no reason.”
“She slapped me because she believed I ruined her dress.”
“You did contribute.”
“Yes.”
“Then say that.”
Hazel paused.
“Are you asking me to tell the whole truth, or protect your wife?”
Silence.
Garnet was doing it again.
Looking for the version that reduced immediate pressure.
Then Amber sent three bridesmaids a private message:
Hazel admitted sabotaging my chair.
Not:
Hazel admitted switching chairs after I glued hers.
One bridesmaid forwarded it to Garnet.
He confronted Amber.
“You’re still doing it.”
Amber exploded.
“She did sabotage it!”
“After you glued hers.”
“You make every fact cancel the one before it!”
That accusation landed.
Context should explain.
Not erase.
Amber sat down.
“I want one thing to be allowed to be her fault.”
Garnet looked at her.
There it was.
Months of resentment.
He answered:
“Some things are her fault.”
Then listed them.
Budget commentary.
Unasked florist contact.
Assumed access.
Trying to solve logistics before the couple asked.
Amber looked at him.
Then he said:
“Glue is yours.”
She looked away.
The next day Amber finally sent Garnet the full incident file.
At the bottom was a page he had never seen.
POST-WEDDING BOUNDARY PLAN.
Rules:
No unscheduled Hazel visits.
One family dinner per month.
No direct contact between Hazel and couple’s vendors or friends.
No spare key.
No discussing couple finances.
No family vacation first year.
No repeated criticism after decisions are made.
Then a consequence ladder:
First serious violation:
30-day pause.
Second:
60-day pause.
Third:
consider long-term low contact.
Garnet stared.
