Chapter 6 - MARGARET'S SECRET WAS NOT A TRAP

Ethan accused Margaret of setting him up.

“You let me think Dad left me everything.”

Margaret met him only through lawyers after the assault.

Her attorney, Denise Park, sat beside her.

Harold sat across from Ethan’s counsel.

Margaret answered:

“No.”

“You hid the trust.”

“The trust was never hidden.”

“I never saw it.”

“You signed beneficiary acknowledgments at twenty-five and thirty.”

Ethan stared.

His lawyer turned toward him.

“You signed acknowledgments?”

“I sign family-office paperwork all the time.”

Harold opened a folder.

One acknowledgment stated:

I understand that no discretionary beneficiary has a vested right to trust distributions prior to approval by the trustee.

Ethan looked sick.

His signature sat beneath it.

Margaret said:

“You didn’t read.”

He snapped:

“Because Dad’s money was supposed to come to me.”

Margaret’s face changed.

“Dad’s money.”

Silence.

Then she said:

“There it is.”

She explained her ownership history.

The shares.

The sale.

The trust funding.

Ethan interrupted:

“You’re saying half of everything was yours?”

“No.”

“I’m saying enough of it was mine that you should stop talking like I inherited your husband’s wallet.”

Even Harold looked down to hide a reaction.
