Chapter 4 - THE FOLDER WAS ONLY HALF THE PLAN
The legal folder contained three separate strategies.
The first:
Temporary successor authority over the Ashcroft Family Trust.
The second:
Emergency voting proxy over Rachel’s forty percent of Ashcroft Medical Systems.
The third:
A guardianship petition concerning Emily.
Rachel stared at that one longest.
“Why would Vivian need guardianship?”
Mara looked grim.
“Because if you are declared incapacitated, Emily’s custodial structure becomes relevant.”
“I’m her mother.”
“Yes.”
“Her legal parent.”
“Yes.”
“Then why—”
Mara turned the page.
The petition alleged Rachel’s illness created an unsafe home environment and that temporary residence with Vivian would protect Emily’s “emotional and financial stability.”
Emily swore.
Rachel almost corrected her.
Then decided the moment had earned it.
Vivian had prepared a world in which Rachel was too sick to manage money, too confused to control company shares, and too unstable to raise her own daughter.
All without one court ruling.
All before Rachel even knew the plan existed.
The birthday signature was supposed to make the process easier.
If Rachel signed voluntarily, no incapacity fight needed to happen.
If she refused, Vivian already had the forged medical letter ready.
Mara said:
“She built two doors.”
Rachel looked at her.
“One if I surrender.”
“One if you don’t.”
That was the structure.
