Chapter 7 - THE FAMILY MEETING WAS A SECOND CRIME

Three days before the crash, Ryan, Victor Sloan, and Margaret had met in the mansion library.

Daniel was not invited.

Emma discovered this from the housekeeper.

At the meeting, Victor presented trust amendments.

They would give Ryan expanded authority to invest family assets through “approved private ventures.”

Margaret hesitated.

Ryan pressured.

Then Richard Keller’s old family custom returned in a sentence:

We keep problems inside the family.

That phrase had protected Ryan his entire life.

Drunk driving at nineteen.

Stolen money at twenty-two.

A fake business expense at twenty-five.

Each time, Margaret paid.

Daniel yelled.

Then everyone moved on.

Owen Mercer had refused.

As former bookkeeper, he spotted $740,000 in transfers routed through Keller Bridge Capital and flagged them.

Victor told him the transfers were authorized.

Owen asked for signatures.

Nobody produced valid ones.

So Owen copied the ledgers.

Ryan needed the trust amendment signed before Owen reached Margaret.

The crash prevented the meeting.

Temporarily.

But after the collision, Victor still brought the papers to Margaret’s bedroom at 9:00 a.m.

She nearly signed.

Then Emma and Daniel arrived with police questions.

That delay saved the trust.
