Chapter 4 - THE SIGNATURE DANIEL CALLED ADMINISTRATIVE

Claire did not stay for another argument.
She took the tray.
The drive.
The documents.
Then left.
Daniel followed her into the hallway.
“Claire.”
She kept walking.
He grabbed her arm.
She turned.
“Touch me again and I call police.”
He released her.
Not because he respected the boundary.
Because neighbors had opened doors after hearing the shouting.
Witnesses changed men like Daniel.
Claire went to Maya’s office.
The next morning, emergency filings began.
First:
challenge to the restructuring consent.
Second:
preservation order for BHG Properties East records.
Third:
temporary prohibition on any further transfer of Claire’s inherited interest.
Daniel’s family responded within hours.
Their position:
Claire’s signature was not forged.
It was applied under a previously executed electronic authorization agreement.
Claire had once signed a broad digital-consent form for family tax documents.
Rachel used that authorization.
Maya read the agreement.
It allowed:
tax filings,
routine notices,
administrative confirmations.
Not surrender of ownership.
Still, Daniel’s defense became more sophisticated.
He had not forged Claire’s signature personally.
Rachel had used a standing authorization too broadly.
Administrative mistake.
Then Maya found an email.
RACHEL:
Claire hasn't approved the east property rollover.
DANIEL:
She will.
RACHEL:
We need it now.
DANIEL:
Use the standing authority. I'll deal with her later.
Claire stared.
There.
Daniel knew.
Maybe he believed she would agree eventually.
That did not equal consent.
Then another:
RACHEL:
If she challenges it, the authorization is weak.
DANIEL:
She won't challenge me.
Claire read that sentence twice.
Not:
she won’t challenge the company.
Me.
Daniel had treated marriage as legal insulation.
Then the affair began three weeks after that email.
Which came first?
Fraud or sex?
May you like
Claire did not yet know.
And Vanessa cared very much.
