Chapter 2 - ELEVEN MINUTES OLDER
Olivia released his wrist.
“Emily is safe,” she said.
Logan stared at the identical face, then at the way she balanced her weight. Emily had spent years making herself smaller around him. Olivia stood like someone who expected the space to remain hers.
“You.”
“Yes.”
He moved toward his phone.
Olivia did not stop him.
Logan called 911 and reported a home invasion, assault, impersonation, and the possible kidnapping of his wife. He described Olivia as unstable and physically dangerous. Then he pointed toward a sensor above the fireplace.
“Everything you just did is recorded.”
Olivia's confidence tightened. She had known there were cameras near the doors. Emily had not mentioned one inside the living room.
“Good,” she said. “Then it recorded you raising your hand.”
“It recorded you entering my house under false pretenses and attacking me.”
He was already building the version he would tell.
Police arrived within seven minutes. Olivia identified herself immediately and explained the switch. She said Emily had consented because she feared being forced home before she could reach an attorney or shelter.
Logan produced exterior footage showing him take the woman he believed was Emily by the arm. From the angle, the movement looked urgent but not clearly violent. The living-room clip began after his shove. It showed Olivia catch his wrist and twist it away.
The seconds before he raised his hand were missing.
Olivia was detained for questioning. She was not charged that night, but police warned that identity deception and unauthorized entry could support future charges depending on evidence and intent.
At her house, Emily waited in a locked bathroom while a domestic-violence advocate stayed on the phone. When officers arrived, she showed them her bruises and agreed to medical examination. She denied being kidnapped.
Logan responded before sunrise. Through attorney Marcus Reed, he filed an emergency petition claiming Emily was experiencing a psychiatric crisis and had been manipulated by her twin. The petition sought temporary guardianship over her medical and financial decisions.
Attached were years of therapy notes describing Emily as anxious, suggestible, and dependent on Olivia.
There was also a sworn statement Emily herself had signed six months earlier.
In it, she said a stairway fall—not Logan—had caused bruises Olivia had once photographed. She accused Olivia of exaggerating ordinary marital conflict because she hated Logan.
Olivia read the statement at the police station.
“Why would she sign this?”
The detective looked through the glass toward Emily, who sat wrapped in a gray blanket.
“That's what a judge is going to ask.”

Logan alleged the twins had planned the impersonation not to escape abuse, but to steal confidential files before a forty-million-dollar corporate vote scheduled for noon.
