Chapter 5 - THE MEDICINE BESIDE THE BED
Dr. Wells denied altering his records for Logan.
He said medication concerns were outside his psychiatric focus and that Emily later withdrew them. Raw audio proved she never withdrew them. Billing records also showed Carter Behavioral Systems paid his clinic through an executive-wellness contract.
The state medical board opened an inquiry.
Emily's prescriptions came from a different physician. Pharmacy logs showed regular refills of a sedative meant for occasional panic attacks. The quantity was high, but not illegal. Logan picked up most of the bottles because Emily had authorized him.
Toxicology from the hospital showed the drug in her blood at a therapeutic level. That could explain drowsiness, not the bruises or fear.
Then Olivia remembered something from the night Emily arrived. Her sister's pupils had been slow to react. She assumed shock.
Emily said Logan brought her tea each night and waited until she drank it.
Dana warned them not to transform suspicion into certainty. Without a sample, container, or witness, they could not claim Logan drugged her.
Police searched the Carter home under a warrant limited to medication and camera evidence. They found sedatives in the correct bottle, a pill organizer, and no drugged tea. They also found a bedroom camera Emily said she had never consented to.
Logan claimed it was installed after her supposed nighttime wandering.
The camera's local card had been removed.
Cloud logs showed daily uploads to an account opened under a shell consulting firm. That firm belonged to Marcus Reed's brother-in-law, who said the account was used for litigation preservation.
The preserved footage contained months of Emily taking medication from Logan's hand, followed by arguments he later described to Dr. Wells as her “episodes.” In one clip, he blocked the bedroom door while she asked to leave. In another, he gripped her arms hard enough to leave the pattern photographed at the hospital.
The footage supported coercive control.
It also showed Emily opening Logan's laptop while he showered and photographing a Meridian contract.
Logan accused her of corporate espionage. Meridian sued to prevent disclosure of its files. The company argued that abuse evidence did not give Emily the right to steal privileged business material.
The judge agreed that the contract could not simply be released publicly. It was placed under seal for review.

Logan then filed for divorce and invoked a prenuptial clause requiring Emily to surrender half her company shares if she disclosed confidential information to an unauthorized person.
The unauthorized person named in his filing was Olivia.
