Chapter 14 - THE RESTAURANT WITHOUT DANTE

Dante did not return.
That surprised everyone.
Victor offered.
First indirectly.
Then directly.
“You made your point.”
Dante answered:
“I wasn’t making a point.”
“Come back.”
“No.”
Julian called later.
“You’d really let strangers run Dad’s restaurant?”
Dante said:
“It’s not Dad’s alone.”
Julian went quiet.
Dante continued:
“And strangers aren’t the problem if they know what they’re doing.”
Dante opened a smaller restaurant six months later.
Not with family money.
A rented forty-seat space.
Simple menu.
Open kitchen.
No rooftop.
No private club.
No marble entrance.
The first month was terrible.
The second was better.
By month six, it was profitable.
Small.
His.
Maya eventually became one reason Dante refused Victor’s offer to return.
At his new restaurant, Dante gave her authority over kitchen purchasing within a monthly budget.
The first time she approved equipment without asking him, he nearly called.
Stopped himself.
The item was within budget.
Needed.
Documented.
