Chapter 3 - THE HONEYMOON WAS A BUSINESS TRIP
Tyler had not brought Sienna to the island for romance alone.
He had brought her because she was carrying documents.
Madison learned that twenty-four hours before the wedding.
Her accountant, Mara Chen, called at 11:18 p.m.
“Maddie, I need you to listen carefully.”
Madison sat alone in her bridal suite.
“What happened?”
“Tyler requested access to the Reed Family Investment Trust.”
Madison frowned.
“He can’t.”
“I know.”
“What did he request?”
“A marital consent certification.”
Madison went still.
The Reed Family Investment Trust held several properties and private investments inherited from Madison’s father.
Tyler was not a beneficiary.
Marriage did not change that.
But one trust clause allowed Madison to designate a spouse as temporary investment representative for certain transactions.
She had never done so.
Mara continued.
“The request includes your electronic signature.”
Madison’s stomach dropped.
“I didn’t sign anything.”
“That’s why I’m calling.”
The document had been transmitted from Tyler’s corporate email.
Metadata showed it was prepared by Sienna.
The proposed authority was broad.
Too broad.
It would have allowed Tyler to approve a $12 million bridge loan from one of Madison’s family entities to Hale Meridian Ventures.
Tyler’s private company.
Madison whispered:
“Oh my God.”
Mara answered:
“There’s more.”
The loan was scheduled to close during the honeymoon.
In St. Lucia.
Why?
A private bank representative was staying at the same resort for an investment conference.
Sienna had arranged the meeting.
