Chapter 4 - THE POLICY WAS NOT REALLY HIS TO TAKE
The policy had another complication.
It was not simply Chloe’s personal property.
Her father had structured it through the Bennett Family Protection Trust.
Chloe was the insured.
The trust was policy owner.
Chloe had limited administrative rights but could not unilaterally transfer ownership without:
trustee approval,
insurer verification,
and independent witness confirmation.
The papers Richard forced against her chest were incomplete.
He knew that.
He had planned around it.
One page inside the packet named a successor trustee.
Richard Bennett.
Chloe stared at it from her hospital bed the next morning.
Her attorney, Mara Chen, sat beside her.
“You never appointed him.”
“No.”
“Never discussed appointing him?”
“No.”
The signature on the trustee amendment looked like Chloe’s.
It was not.
Or rather:
it had been copied from another document.
A company board resolution signed eleven months earlier.
Mara looked at her.
“This is not just coercion anymore.”
Chloe closed her eyes.
