Chapter 8 - THE MAN BEHIND THE TRANSFER

The insurance consultant was named Peter Lawson.

Fifty-eight.

Licensed.

Experienced.

Careful enough to stay just outside obvious crime.

He had warned Richard repeatedly:

Need clean consent.

Need trustee authority.

Need carrier verification.

Richard kept pushing.

Eventually Lawson wrote:

If the trust cannot approve, there is no legitimate transfer.

Richard replied:

I’ll handle the trust.

That message saved Lawson from the worst suspicion.

But another email created problems.

Richard:

If Chloe becomes medically unavailable, I assume successor authority can move.

Lawson:

Potentially, depending on governing documents.

Richard:

And if Margaret is no longer around?

Lawson did not answer.

That silence was not proof.

But it showed where Richard’s thinking had gone.

He saw people as obstacles inside structures.

Wife.

Mother-in-law.

Trustee.

Beneficiary.

Not family.
