Chapter 7 - RICHARD COUNTERATTACKS

Richard hired excellent counsel.

His story changed shape.

He said Chloe was unstable after caring for her mother.

He said they had discussed restructuring insurance for tax reasons.

True, vaguely.

He said the papers were drafts.

Partly true.

He said Chloe fell during an argument.

False, according to the footage.

He said the red-light lockdown terrified him and made him fear for his life.

Emotionally possible.

Legally complicated.

Then he filed for divorce.

First.

He asked the court to restrict Chloe’s access to joint accounts.

He claimed she had weaponized the smart home.

Mara warned Chloe:

“Do not assume being the victim means every judge will automatically like every decision you made.”

Chloe hated that.

But understood.

The emergency system’s sixty-second delay was lawful because emergency egress remained available.

The evidence transmission had been configured before the incident.

That mattered.

She had not invented a trap in anger.

She had activated a safety plan created because she already feared coercion.

Richard’s argument weakened.

Then the kitchen audio surfaced.

Richard:

Or your mother is next.

The courtroom went silent when it played.

There are sentences no amount of later calm can clean.
