Luca did not begin with threats.
He began with arithmetic.
“Harper Storage sits there earning eight percent.”
“Some years.”
“I can borrow against it cheaper than the company line.”
“No.”
“You didn’t even hear the structure.”
“I heard collateral.”
“It’s temporary.”
“No.”
He became frustrated.
“You trust a row of metal boxes more than your husband.”
“That’s not what this is.”
“It is exactly what this is.”
Jessi kept her voice calm.
“My aunt left it to me. I’m not putting it behind your company debt.”
“Our company debt.”
“Your company.”
“We live on it.”
“We also live on Harper income.”
Luca hated that answer.
