Chapter 8 - THE RECORDING PLAN
Rachel did not tell Jessi to provoke Luca.
She did tell her to document future conversations if lawful and appropriate under applicable recording rules.
Jessi bought a simple recorder because she did not trust herself to remember details accurately under stress.
She used it first during a meeting in the kitchen.
Luca said:
“I need the property transferred into a joint LLC before the bank closes.”
Jessi answered:
“No.”
Wendy said:
“You’re destroying your own family over a technicality.”
Jessi asked:
“What technicality?”
“That it’s only in your name.”
The sentence mattered.
Not because Wendy admitted a crime.
Because she revealed the belief.
Title was a technicality.
Consent was a technicality.
Separate ownership was a technicality.
Anything blocking the rescue became a technicality.
Jessi began carrying the recorder when Luca wanted to “talk business.”
The LLC documents were professionally drafted.
That made them more dangerous emotionally, not legally.
Nothing on the page said:
Luca controls Jessi forever.
Instead:
manager authority,
borrowing authority,
mortgage authorization,
assignment of rents,
indemnification.
Ordinary clauses.
The structure would have been valid if Jessi knowingly agreed.
That was why Luca kept saying:
“It’s standard.”

A normal document can still be wrong for the person being asked to sign it.
