Chapter 11 - LIAM LOSES THE COMPANY BEFORE HE LOSES THE MARRIAGE

Liam expected the board to support him once Victor’s manipulation became clear.

Instead, the board suspended Liam as CEO too.

He was furious.

“I was targeted.”

Independent director Samuel Grant answered:

“You also bypassed company safeguards for a personal test.”

“I didn’t alter the sample.”

“No.”

“Then why am I suspended?”

“Because you used your position to turn a clinical workflow into a private investigation.”

Liam stared.

Then Samuel added:

“And when the result was extraordinary, you did not verify it.”

The board was not judging the assault.

That was separate.

It was judging leadership.

Liam had:

used internal systems for private purposes,

demanded secrecy,

pressured turnaround time,

ignored quality flags,

and accepted an uncertified result as fact.

That was enough for temporary removal.

He looked at Ava afterward.

“You happy?”

She stared.

“You still think this is something I did to you?”

He immediately regretted it.

Too late.

Ava picked up Lily’s diaper bag.

“My daughter got kicked because you wanted certainty faster than truth.”

Liam said:

“Victor set me up.”

“Yes.”

“And you think that doesn’t matter?”

“It matters.”

Pause.

“It just doesn’t save you.”
