Chapter 10 - THE OLD EMAIL KAREN DIDN'T WANT FOUND

Susan had emails.

Lots.

One from Karen thirteen years earlier:

Can we use pool Saturday?

Susan:

Not this weekend, sorry.

Karen:

No problem.

Important.

Request.

Permission.

Denial accepted.

Then another:

Pool open Sunday?

Susan:

Yes after 2.

Again:

permission.

Then:

Please don’t come by while contractors are here.

Karen:

Understood.

Daniel smiled.

“These are better than any brochure.”

Why?

Because Karen herself historically treated access as permission.

Not right.

Then a later email.

Karen:

We should formalize neighborhood use someday.

Susan:

No. We’re not putting anything on title.

There.

Direct rejection.

Karen had known no permanent right existed.

Yet now she claimed longstanding understanding.

Her credibility weakened badly.

Then Mark’s maintenance bid surfaced.

Conflict.

He stood to profit if HOA access plan passed.

Karen had not disclosed that in the first HOA presentation.

Not criminal.

But governance problem.

The HOA board suspended consideration pending legal review.

Karen called Rachel:

“You happy?”

Rachel answered:

“No.”

That surprised Karen.

May you like

“I’m tired.”

Then hung up.
