Chapter 14 - THE MEAT PLANT

Ryan did not go alone.

He made it look that way.

Police and federal teams staged outside the old Carter Meat Plant.

Abandoned twenty years.

Cold rooms still functional in one wing through illegal power.

Ryan entered.

Gray shirt.

Dark jacket.

No visible rifle.

Adrian waited beside the metal table.

Cleaver lying beside containers of animal meat.

Victor Hale sat restrained in a chair.

Alive.

Adrian said:

“You brought them.”

Ryan did not deny.

“You knew I would.”

“Yes.”

“Then why ask me here?”

Adrian smiled.

“Because Voss is listening.”

Ryan looked up.

Hidden camera.

Adrian had never trusted Voss.

He wanted confession evidence.

He had recorded years of payments and instructions.

Ryan stared.

“You could’ve gone to police.”

“Police killed my brother.”

“Price may have helped cover it. That doesn’t make every cop Price.”

Adrian’s jaw tightened.

Then Victor spoke.

“Derek was going to testify.”

Adrian looked at him.

Victor continued:

“Price gave Voss the meeting location. Derek died before he reached me.”

Adrian’s face cracked.

He had spent years blaming Victor for Derek’s death.

Victor had actually been waiting to help him cooperate.

Adrian whispered:

“You’re lying.”

Victor answered:

“I have the recording.”

Final archive.

Where?

Victor had memorized encryption credentials but the files themselves were stored in a dormant cloud vault triggered by a physical key.

The key was hidden in his old watch.

Adrian had taken the watch two years earlier and thrown it into a box, thinking it worthless.

Still in his storage.

The evidence had been beside him the whole time.

Then gunfire? Avoid graphic. Outside, tires screeched.

Voss’s hired team arrived.

They were not there to rescue Adrian.

They were there to erase him.

Adrian realized.

Ryan said:

“Now you understand what you became.”

A tool.

Same as Derek.

Adrian reached toward the cleaver.

Ryan raised his weapon.

“Don’t.”

Adrian stopped.

Then turned off the hidden camera feed to Voss.

For the first time, he chose against the system he served.

He surrendered.
