Chapter 11 - LYDIA'S CONSEQUENCES
Lydia lost her position in the family office.
Not because Simone ordered it.
Because Bellamy Properties’ independent directors reviewed the deceptive communications and concluded she breached trust.
Carmen protested.
The board overruled her.
Lydia then cooperated in the proxy dispute.
Some relatives called her whistleblower.
Others called her architect.
Both were partly true.
She had exposed Carmen’s pressure.
She had also manipulated Deline.
Then Lydia asked to meet Simone.
Simone agreed once.
Lydia said:
“You know Carmen would have done something eventually.”
Simone answered:
“That doesn’t make you a rescuer.”
“I know.”
“Do you?”
Lydia looked down.
Then admitted she wanted Deline publicly broken.
Why?
Because Deline received affection Lydia had never received.
Carmen called Lydia:
useful.
Called Deline:
beautiful.
Called Simone:
reliable.
Each daughter-category became a cage.
Simone asked:
“Why target me too?”
Lydia answered:
“Because you always leave.”
Simone frowned.
“You built your own life. Deline stayed in the family. I stayed doing the work. You got to be free and still inherit influence.”
There it was.
Resentment at escape.
Then Simone said:
“You could leave too.”
Lydia laughed.
“Now I have to.”
Maybe that was the first honest opening she had.
No reconciliation.
