The case settled before trial.
Not because Jenna won.
Not because Daryl softened.
Because discovery stripped the myths down enough that everyone could finally calculate.
Terms:
Jenna acknowledged no ownership interest in the Malibu property.
Daryl reimbursed documented capital improvements she had personally funded, minus unauthorized rental proceeds she retained.
Jenna repaid part of the net rental income through structured payments.
Robert reimbursed Daryl for several rental-related household transfers from separate investment assets.
The historic $410,000 personal guarantee Daryl paid years earlier was formally acknowledged as a loan Robert owed, with a reduced family settlement rather than full litigation.
Elaine bore no direct repayment because she had not received funds personally, though her knowledge was documented.
Most importantly:
No one used the house without Daryl’s written permission.
No “family understanding.”
No “Dad said.”
No “we’ve always.”
Paper.
Simple.
Clean.
Jenna signed last.
She looked at Daryl across the conference table.
“You got what you wanted.”
He almost laughed.
Another family phrase.
“No.”
“What do you want then?”
Daryl thought.
“I wanted my son to feel safe bringing something he loved into a family room.”
Jenna looked away.
That answer reached her in a place money had not.
Maybe.
Or maybe Daryl wanted to believe it did.
Either way, the documents were signed.
