Chapter 7 - RYAN'S REAL REASON FOR MARRYING AMBER

Ryan did love being desired.

But that was not why he proposed to Amber.

He needed proximity to the Bennett family.

Specifically, the Bennett Medical Foundation.

The foundation controlled grants, hospital partnerships, and access to a network of regional surgical centers.

Claire had been his bridge first.

When she left him, Amber became the replacement.

Amber was not a surgeon.

She worked in foundation development.

She had donor access.

Calendar access.

Event access.

Ryan encouraged the affair long before Claire discovered it.

Then he encouraged Amber to believe she had “won.”

Because a woman competing with her sister rarely asks whether the prize is using both of them.

Claire learned this from emails Amber finally turned over.

Ryan:

Claire thinks she’s the important Bennett because she has the degree.

Amber:

She always has.

Ryan:

You understand people. That matters more.

Another:

Once we’re married, the foundation relationship becomes permanent.

Amber read the messages beside Claire in Samuel Archer’s office.

Her face crumpled.

“I thought he chose me.”

Claire did not comfort her immediately.

“You chose him too.”

Amber nodded through tears.

“I know.”

That mattered.

Victimhood did not erase betrayal.

May you like

But betrayal did not erase manipulation either.

Both could be true.
