Maya Chen refused to call it theft at first.
That irritated Elena.
“They took control of my accounts.”
“Some.”
“They changed my office access.”
“Yes.”
“They redirected company mail.”

“They told people I was insolvent.”

“So say theft.”
Maya shook her head.
“Say what we can prove.”
That discipline saved them.
Victor had not emptied Elena’s fortune.
He was smarter than that.
He moved smaller amounts.
Consulting retainers.
Emergency management fees.
Property maintenance reimbursements.
Bridge loans to family entities.
Each individually defensible.
Together:
$1.7 million in six weeks.
Celeste received $240,000 through “estate transition consulting.”
Victor’s company received $610,000.
Another $350,000 went to Mercer Hospitality Group.
Victor owned forty percent.
Celeste controlled the rest.
Then came the liens.
Victor had attempted to pledge two Hale properties as security for a Mercer Hospitality refinancing.
The lender filed preliminary notices.
That was what Victor accidentally referenced in the ballroom.
Elena had never approved the pledge.
The financing did not close.
