Chapter 8 - THE BOARDROOM

Hale Private Holdings called a special board meeting.

Not a family meeting.

That mattered.

Victor entered expecting negotiation.

He got governance.

Independent directors.

Outside counsel.

Forensic accountants.

Compliance staff.

Elena sat at the head of the table.

No wheelchair.

Still sore.

Standing was easier now.

Jonathan presented the timeline.

Temporary authority granted.

Authority narrowed.

Authority revoked.

Transfers continuing.

Property pledge attempted.

Cards used.

Override call placed.

Victor interrupted.

“I saved the company while Elena was incapacitated.”

Jonathan answered:

“Hale Private Holdings did not require rescue.”

Victor looked at Elena.

“You told me to use my judgment.”

“I did.”

“So I did.”

“After I revoked it.”

Victor’s face tightened.

Then came the hospitality-company numbers.

Mercer Hospitality Group was near default.

The refinancing depended on collateral.

Without Elena’s properties, Victor’s company might fail.

That was motive.

Not enough alone.

But aligned with action.

The board suspended all Victor-linked entities from contracts and referred the findings externally.

Celeste’s consulting payments were frozen pending recovery.

Elena did not smile.

This was not revenge anymore.

It was accounting.

May you like

Much less satisfying.

Much more permanent.
