Chapter 8 - RICHARD FILES ANYWAY

Richard petitioned for temporary conservatorship.
Despite the recording.
Despite Evelyn’s written objections.
Despite her doctors.
His attorney argued she remained medically vulnerable and that the banking freeze showed impulsive behavior.
That was smart.
He turned her defense into evidence against her.
Mara warned Evelyn:
“Do not underestimate this.”
Evelyn typed:
I WON’T.
The hearing became less dramatic than Richard expected.
Dr. Helen Park testified Evelyn had intact cognition.
A neuropsychologist confirmed decision-making capacity.
The wired jaw affected speech.
Not judgment.
Evelyn answered questions through the tablet.
The judge asked:
“Do you understand the purpose of this proceeding?”
Evelyn typed:
YES. MY HUSBAND WANTS LEGAL CONTROL OF ASSETS HE CANNOT ACCESS WITH MY CONSENT.
Richard looked down.
That sentence ended the emotional fog.
The petition was denied.

Then the court ordered financial preservation pending investigation.
Richard’s business problems became his own again.
