The community garden expanded.
The school district approved a permanent environmental-learning center.

Emily used a cane.
Benjamin, now almost two, kept trying to pull ribbons from chairs.
Lily, nine, gave a short speech.
She had written it herself.
“Ms. Emily taught us dirt isn’t dirty information.”
Everyone laughed.
Then Lily continued:
“Sometimes grown-ups cover things because they don’t want people to know. But if you look carefully, the ground keeps clues.”
Emily cried.
Daniel did too.
Afterward they planted rosemary.
The same herb growing above Emily’s hidden evidence container at home.
Lily handed Emily a small glass jar.
Daniel immediately said:
“No.”
Everyone laughed.
It was empty.
Lily rolled her eyes.
“For flowers.”
Emily looked at Daniel.
“You traumatized?”
“Deeply.”
She kissed him.
Recovery had changed their marriage too.
Daniel admitted he had ignored parts of Emily’s work because they sounded abstract.
Emily admitted she hid fear because she wanted certainty before burdening him.
Neither mistake caused sabotage.
But both mattered to how they rebuilt.
