Chapter 8 - RICHARD

Richard Vale had even less patience for the history.
He told Victor:
“This is ancient family drama.”
Victor answered:
“No. The necklace is ancient family drama. Your wife humiliating a pregnant worker at a maternal-workforce gala happened tonight.”
Richard looked annoyed.
“She dropped a tray.”
“She dropped it after Eleanor knocked it.”
Richard glanced toward security.
He knew there were cameras.
Then changed strategy.
“Fine. Eleanor behaved badly.”
“Badly?”
“What do you want, Victor?”
“I want to know whether the foundation paying for this room has contractor standards.”
Richard laughed.
“You came here because of a necklace and now you’re auditing my wife?”
Victor looked at Isabella.
Still seated.
Still stained with wine.
Still gathering silverware because nobody had officially told her to stop working.
Victor said:
“No.”

Then:
“I’m finally looking where Claire told me to look.”
